Journey from Bayona to Leixoes
At 12pm Portuguese time we saw Viana do Castelo, but also the wind came up from the north. Following some discussion we decided to take advantage of the wind and carry on to Porto (Leixoes) which we could still reach before dark. The wind steadily increased, and the spinnaker we had put up was creaking […]
Ría de Vigo : Bayona
We left the next morning, 28th May, for Bayona, motoring across in a couple of hours. We found a berth in the MRYC pontoons and tidied up before signing in at the office. We were disappointed to find that contrary to the pilot book there was no phone line available for using a modem. However […]
Islas Cies
26th May we motored and sailed to the Islas Cies, an island nature reserve outside the Ría de Vigo. We anchored great first time in the middle of the bay on the isthmus which joins the two halves of the island, and went to the beach in the afternoon. The island was full of schoolkids […]
Ría de Pontevedra : Pontevedra
We went back to the boat to get more petrol and embarked on a journey in the dinghy up the estuary/river to Pontevedra. It was getting windy and we were underdressed, I was quite worried about getting back without getting very cold. The journey took about an hour and apart from the marina past the first […]
Ría de Pontevedra : Combarro
25th May went up the Ría and anchored off Combarro which is an ancient fishing village - well preserved although plagued with lots of day-trippers. Amazing tiny streets and squares. Dan got an ice cream, then we ate lunch at a café in the old village among the tourist shops at the far end.
Ría de Pontevedra : Porto Novo
23rd may moved to Ría de Pontevedra, anchoring between Porto Novo and Sanxenxo off Playa Silgar, anchored. The beach looked like Weymouth - full of newish buildings such as hotels and tourist places, and a busy beach.
24th May spent some time in Porto Novo, looked like everything was closed but went up the hill into […]
Ría de Pontevedra : Porto Novo
9th May moved to Ría de Camariñas, again small but protected, anchored 3rd attempt in very clayey weedy bottom in the middle of the large area outside Camariñas. Several surrounding beaches but sewage into Camariñas harbour. Very picturesque. We frequented the local supermarket some three times during our stay, there was one poor girl on […]

Ría de Corme e Lage
That afternoon (16th May) went to Ría de Corme e Lage, 31/2 hour journey, anchored outside Corme.
Everyone very friendly, especially towards Dan, except again we floundered with the language. I cannot find my Spanish dictionary yet. The beach was beautiful, very sparkly with lots of shiny bits especially in the wet sand. Very nice lunch […]
La Coruña
We berthed on the Real Club Náutico de Coruña pontoons for 4 nights. We met some Irishmen taking a boat back home from Turkey in fits and starts between their work, they work one month on one month off on oil rigs. They were out to party, very friendly, they borrowed various items from us […]
