Journey from Leixoes to Cascais
3rd June we left Leixoes at midday bound for Lisbon. Unfortunately very little wind and a lot of fog, three cheers for the radar and Mr Perkins the engine, and not forgetting George the wheel-pilot and little George (George II) the tiller pilot. For the final day of this 30 hour journey we had company in the way of a lost pigeon, who settled next to our main mast on a spreader for several hours. Although we were not very far from land we couldn’t actually see it in the fog, and the pigeon did look tired. When we were within good sight of land, and only half an hour from our destination of Cascais, the wind finally came up. The pigeon disappeared when we hoisted the sails, hopefully it reached land safely.
In the evening we arrived and anchored along with two or three other boats outside Cascais marina.
