Journey from Adra to Cartagena
No wind so it was a long motor most of the way to Cartagena. We passed close to a couple of headlands on the way in the dark, so it was an interesting passage. In the morning we made a detour to avoid a torpedo firing exercise near to Cartagena, at which point the wind […]
Motril
Eventually we decided to stop at Motril, a commercial and fishing harbour next to an unattractive town, and we spent the afternoon and night anchored in the outer part of the harbour. The inner harbour was very smelly with various nearby chemical works and cargo ship loading, but the outer harbour seemed ok.
Nigel and Dan […]
Malaga
In the evening we left Fuengirola, there was a bit of wind from the west and we took about 31/2 hours to get to Malaga. Half under sail, and then as it was getting dark we became motor-assisted. We understood that yachts are not welcome in Malaga harbour which is a busy commercial and fishing […]
Fuengirola
On 17th July we arrived at Fuengirola and were in the port office at 9 a.m. However the port office staff weren’t in for another hour so Nigel got some rest and I cooked the tuna and picked it into large steaks and made some pasta, with sweetcorn and mayonnaise to go with it. After […]
Gibraltar to SE Spain
Journey from Gibraltar into SE Spain (the Mediterranean!)
That night as the wind had dropped almost to nothing, we decided to make our bid for freedom and exit the Strait. We called up our friends from Guernsey, Phil Horsepool and Sue Garau, who now live near Mijas (pronounced Mihas) near Fuengirola and Marbella, and arranged to […]
Dan’s Birthday
Wednesday 14th July, Dan’s third birthday!
This was the last day that Barry and Cat were to be with us, we had a lot of card and present giving, the most popular present being one that I had been waiting to give Dan for about 18 months, a Thomas the Tank engine train set with bridges […]
Barry’s visit
Sun 11th July, Barry arrived at about 3 in the afternoon with his friend Cat, he had had to land at Malaga and was not permitted by the Spanish authorities to fly directly on to Gibraltar. We did wonder why there were no flights from Spain here! He could have flown via Tangiers in Morocco […]
Anchorage at La Linea
We decided to move the boat to the other side of the breakwater of La Linea which is in fact in Spain, as the breakwater is hooked and afforded a lot of protection from the waves. However we did not check in with anyone as there is no visitors’ marina and we believe no office […]
Gibraltar (continued)
Monday 5th July
Today a Nimrod type plane took off, what a noise! It is many times more noisy than a passenger jet, and very scary for Dan, he has learnt to cover his ears up to deaden the noise! Later it arrived back again, similar noise levels!
We ate a late lunch at an Indian place […]
The Rock
Sunday 4th July we decided to do the cable car trip up the Rock. We landed in the middle of the harbour again with the dinghy and found the station next to the Botanical Gardens. Although it was afternoon already the lady said we would have time to do the full ticket which would enable […]
