Dan’s Birthday

Wednesday 14th July, Dan’s third birthday!

This was the last day that Barry and Cat were to be with us, we had a lot of card and present giving, the most popular present being one that I had been waiting to give Dan for about 18 months, a Thomas the Tank engine train set with bridges and station etc. It had always got superseded by other train sets given by other people, however it was now very timely, because Dan already had a small train set with which the new one is compatible.

Nigel gave Dan his red jet as well, which was used for some time, and the other popular present was the paints I had bought him, we immediately got covered up and produced various works of art.

Barry and Cat went up the rock in the cable car and met us in town afterwards, we had drinks and then a meal in Casemates Square. Although Dan ate very little, he had a whale of a time riding his bike around the square, and then making friends with all the other children who were playing. He also played with his toy Porsche which Barry and Cat had given him, and it was a point of interest for some of the other kids too!

On Thursday morning we said goodbye to Barry and Cat. Although they had hoped to sail with us to Malaga, the wind was not favourable and they ended up catching the bus back.We left the marina, which had been very noisy with the ropes as the surge came in, and also from all the seagulls around the runway, and went back to our anchorage at La Linea. We stayed on the boat and had a lazy day. I sorted through all Dan’s books and put some away that were not being used, to make room for all the new ones! And we tidied up a bit since our guests had gone.

On Friday 16th July we went in the afternoon to La Linea as we were expecting the fiesta to have started. We spent the evening in the town but did not see much happening, the fairground we found out did not start until the next day. Nevertheless we spent a pleasant evening.
