The Crew

Skipper and owner: Nigel Loller
Experience: has owned and used motor boats for 25 years in his spare time around the Channel Islands and France. Has helmed and crewed sailing dinghies and yachts, both racing and cruising, for over 15 years, including several cross-channel passages from Guernsey.
Experience of night sailing, shipping lanes, navigation into new ports.
Very good with engines, metalwork and electrics.
First Mate: Elaine Mahy

Experience: has sailed and raced dinghies and yachts for over 15 years, experienced with both helming and crewing. Has made several cross-channel passages in sailing yachts, (some of those racing).
Experience of night sailing, shipping lane, navigation into new ports.
Qualifications: RYA dinghy instructor and advanced instructor certificates.
Has passed the theory examination for RYA Yachtmaster.
Also planning to study celestial navigation before departure.
Note, September 2006 : Has used celestial navigation in practice across the Atlantic.

Apprentice Crew – title to be assigned: Daniel Loller (age 2 ¾ on departure, May 2004)
Experience: has spent many weekends and holidays in 2002/2003 cruising between the Channel Islands, France, England and Ireland with his parents on the above boat.
Note, September 2006: Now aged 5, Daniel can swim well, and is becoming a helpful crew.
Note, July 2009: Daniel is home in Guernsey, has just celebrated his 8th birthday, and is looking forward to starting school. He has completed a circumnavigation and around 40,000 nautical miles in his five years aboard.
Apprentice Crew : Lisa Loller (born in Trinidad in April 2006)
Born to boating but as yet to have her first voyage that she can see herself. However she is familiar with the dinghy, whose engine sends her to sleep!
Note, March 2009: Lisa has now completed a circumnavigation of around 25,000 nautical miles from Trinidad to Trinidad, before she was three years old.
Note, July 2009: Lisa has travelled around 28,000 nautical miles in our boat since she was born. Now home in Guernsey, she is settling in well to life on land.
Apprentice Crew : George Loller (born in Fiji in September 2007)
The latest and most definitely the last addition to our crew, George travelled over 7000 nautical miles prior to being born, and is getting used to boating on the outside.
Note, July 2009: George is now “home” in Guernsey – for his first time. At just under two years old he has sailed across more than three oceans and about 20,000 nautical miles since birth. His first passage between Fiji and New Zealand took 9 days and 1000 nautical miles, when he was just under two months old. Now he is finding his land legs and learning to talk!
