2006 April - New baby girl - Lisa Jade Loller
If you don’t already know …
Elaine, Nigel and Daniel are delighted to announce the safe arrival of our
new baby girl, Lisa Jade Loller, in Trinidad, West Indies, on 26th April
2006.
Many thanks to all of you who have sent us emails already, we have really
enjoyed reading them.
Lisa began life while we were in the Mediterranean, somewhere around Malta
or Tunisia. We had already spent several months of 2005 cruising around
France, Corsica, Italy, and the Ionian islands of Greece. So then with
morning sickness and occasional seasickness added together, and early
pregnancy tiredness, we continued around the coast of Spain back to
Gibraltar. From there Elaine went home to Guernsey for a while with Daniel
while Nigel took our boat “Spinalonga” to the Canary Islands.
We finally decided that we would all cross the Atlantic in December 2005 as
originally planned, as at five months pregnant it was the best part of
pregnancy to travel.
The crossing was good, taking a month from Las Palmas, Gran Canaria, to
Antigua,West Indies. This included a week of calm and three weeks of
reasonable wind.
>From January to March 2006 we enjoyed the islands between Antigua and the
Grenadines, before it really was time to prepare for the arrival of Bump2!
On our arrival in Trinidad we did some research, and eventually found a
reasonably-priced maternity centre called Amicus, which seemed to be the
answer for us. When the day finally arrived (and it was the actual due
date!) we were unfortunately not able to have our chosen midwife, and the
duty midwife was of the old-fashioned kind, which made it difficult to have
the labour and delivery we wanted. However, we got through this and our
beautiful girl was born three hours after arrival at the centre. The
following two days we spent at the centre were very good. We had an ensuite
room where Nigel and Daniel were welcome to stay over too, and the staff
were friendly and not intrusive.
Now we have the baby girl we wanted, and being on the boat with all our
family together, things are much easier this second time round.
We have called a temporary stop to our voyage around the world to get used
to having Lisa, but we hope to continue at the end of 2006 through Panama
and into the Pacific.
