2009 April - Circumnavigation! - back to Caribbean

Hello all

We are back in the Caribbean after completing our circumnavigation!

It is two and a half years since we left Trinidad, sailing through the Caribbean to Panama, across the Pacific Ocean to Polynesia, New Zealand, northern Australia, through the southern Indian Ocean to Mauritius, Reunion and around South Africa, and up the South Atlantic via St Helena and French Guiana, to Trinidad in the Caribbean again!

Our circumnavigation has taken 866 days and 25776 nautical miles. Including the whole voyage since Guernsey in May 2004, we have travelled over 35,300 nautical miles to date.

This has taken place since Lisa was born in Trinidad in 2006 and so four of us have completed a sail around the world, Lisa at under the age of three!

George was born in Fiji in 2007 and has sailed across two and a half oceans so far.

We are all very pleased with this achievement, and it was nice to be able to show Lisa her birthplace again, now she is older, and to revisit some old friends.

We have a total of about six weeks to spend in the Caribbean islands, before we must sail north from the islands and east, navigating the North Atlantic via the Azores for our return to England/Guernsey by July or August.

We are looking forward to seeing friends and family, although we are somewhat reluctant to start a ”normal” life again. This will be hard in many ways and we will miss sailing and travelling very much.

All for now, and we look forward to seeing many of you very soon.

Elaine, Nigel, Daniel, Lisa and George.
